Called ‘Mehnati’, meaning ‘My occupation’, the training session was organised by the Emirates National Development Programme (ENDP) in association with the Emirates Academy.

The ceremony was attended by company directors and other representatives of the private sector.

ENDP Deputy Director Issa Al Mulla addressed the ceremony.

“The Retail Mehnati programme is specifically designed for UAE job-seekers interested in a career in the retail industry,” he said.

“It offers a series of theoretical modules and practical implementation at the sponsor companies’ retail units during work placement.”

Al Mulla said there was a big demand for UAE nationals in the retail industry due to their interest in finding new job opportunities in the private sector.

He expressed satisfaction that the graduates had landed work placements in various companies such as Al Tayer Group, Gargash Projects, Chalhoub Group and Jumbo.

Twenty-two nationals had graduated in the first batch of Mehnati which was launched in March 2007.

ENDP said that the graduates had started working with various retail outlets such as Harvey Nicols and Areej.
