Only three months are left to avail of a 100 per cent discount on traffic fines in Dubai if you have not committed any violations since February 7, this year.
The Dubai Police has announced on Thursday the launching the third phase of their 'Traffic Fines Settlement' initiative, allowing motorists to avail a 75 per cent discount on their accumulated fines in case they haven't committed any violations since the launch of the initiative on February 7.
On its official Twitter account, the Dubai Police said: "Dubai Police officially launch the third phase of the 'Traffic Fines Settlement' initiative offering 75% on accumulated fines for those who haven't committed any traffic violations since the 7th of February 2019."
On February 7, the Dubai Police launched the first-of-its-type initiative, according to which motorists who did not commit any violations for three months could get a 25 per cent discount on their fines. No violations for six months would entitle them to a 50 per cent discount. Keep driving well for nine months and you could get a 75 per cent discount and 100 per cent discount if you didn't commit any violation in a year.
According to Major-General Mohammed Saif Al Zafeen, assistant commander-in-chief for operations, the initiative applies to all vehicles registered in Dubai, on condition that the driver abides by traffic laws and regulations and does not commit any violations for a full calendar year.
Additionally, the police announced in August that minor violations committed by motorists will not be taken into consideration, and the motorists will still avail the discounts on their fines.
He said: "We cannot waste the effort of a motorist who has been committed to six months since the initiative was launched, when he is close to get a 50 per cent discount on his fines because of a minor violation," he told an Arabic daily.
Moreover, according to Colonel Juma Salim bin Suwaidan, acting director of the
Dubai Traffic Police, all traffic violations are included in the initiative, either it was speeding or even a traffic accident.
In February, the committed motorists should receive 100 per cent discount on all of their fines, and currently, renewing the initiative is being studied by Dubai police.
