25 Portakabins Gutted
ABU DHABI— Some 25 portakabins in a labour accommodation in Al Musaffah area in Abu Dhabi were gutted as a fire broke out in the premises at around 6pm on Friday.
However, no casualties or injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is not yet know. The fire broke out in one of the wooden shacks designated for workers, First Lieutenant Abdullah Al Tamimi, Director of Public Relations at the Civil Defence department told Khaleej Times.Since the portacabins are attached to each other, the fire spread quickly.
Besides, some gas cylinders used for cooking exploded when touched by the flames, making the blaze thicker, as the workers ran for their lives. Luckily for them, most of the workers were not in their portacabins when the fire broke out, Al Tamimi said.
Firefighting brigades and rescue squads of the Civil Defence Department managed to put out the flame before it could spread to more portakabins.
