The 23-year-old Air Arabia pilot will begin his journey on May 14 and will take three to four days to end the voyage. No one has ever attempted such a long voyage in a Laser sail boat, a 4.3-metre, one-sail craft and Kooheji hopes to set a new world record through his endeavour.

Speaking at a Press conference held on Thursday at Knotika Marine Mall in Dubai, Kooheji said he felt confident about successfully navigating the often treacherous waters between the two Gulf states.

“We have taken into account every worst-case scenario - including dehydration and sunstroke - and made sure we are fully prepared,” said Sami, a member of Bahrain's 2004 Olympic sailing team.

“There is always an element of risk involved in such a journey, of course, but my experience at sea and the support I will receive should ensure smooth sailing. I am also extremely thankful to my support team, especially my father and brother who have worked endless hours to ensure everything is ready on time”

The record-breaking attempt will be assessed by Robin Wilson-Webb of the World Speed Sailing Record Council in Britain, who will inspect the finish line for the event at the Jumeirah Beach hotel.

Two support boats will accompany Kooheji throughout the journey — a 45-foot sailing yacht and a 27-foot speed boat.

The support boats will provide Sami with food and drink, but will otherwise not interfere with the journey - except in the event of emergency.
