All these vehicles were seized during inspection campaigns by inspectors to enforce the laws and to crack down on violators, said Adil Ali Al Deek, head of the Environmental and Health Department at RAK Municipality.

He noted that the municipality had banned the display of second-hand vehicles for sale on the streets and in the parking lots of mosques or government departments, but many owners of such vehicles had not showed the necessary cooperation.

Al Deek said besides jeopardising the municipality’s efforts for cleaning up the cities, cars parked on the streets and in public parking lots for sale hinder the motorists who may want to use these parking spaces and sometimes they pose risks to the road users especially when the cars are parked at dangerous road areas.

Most of these vehicles had been released after their owners paid the municipal fines of between Dh1,000 and Dh1,150.

According the municipal laws, vehicles that are not claimed within a period of six months will be sold off in public auctions.

Al Deek has however noted that the inspection campaigns carried out during the recent Eid Al Adhaand National Day holidays showed that there was a decline in the violations as very few owners were found flouting the rules.
