Video of Khalid Horiya's dance at a party in Khor Fakkan evoked anger, prompting the Sharjah Ruler to order his arrest.

Sharjah: Well-known sports personality Khalid Horiya, who attracted the ire of Emiratis when an objectionable video of him dancing with girls at a party in Khor Fakkan was released on social media on Monday, apologised to the Rulers and people of the emirates.

Horiya, who is currently shooting a film in Kuwait, called an Ajman Radio programme and apologised on air to the Sharjah Ruler, all UAE Shaikhs and people as well as residents for what he called the indecent act which he committed just for fun and comic.

“I will come to surrender myself to police and I am ready to accept the punishment which will be decided by the justice system. I demand forgiveness from God and the Ruler of Sharjah. He is a father and I am his son. He can punish me for my mistake,” he said.

“Never in my life, I (have) approached the police department for any case, it’s the first time it happens to me. I’m a disciplined man and what I did was just for fun, but it’s a shame and will never repeat.”

On Tuesday, the Sharjah Sports Club issued a circular banning the entry of Horya, who was ordered by His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, to be detained as he was involved in indecent dancing during a wedding ceremony of the son of a popular TV sports presenter and commentator, Adnan Hamad, in his house in Khor Fakkan.

The video which was circulating on social media sites showed a man dancing in an indecent manner and a woman dancer lying on the floor, who was slapped in the face by Khalid Horiya.

Shaikh Sultan ordered a police investigation and detention of  all those involved, including those who organised the event, in order to protect the youth from being misled from the cultural path.

The video evoked anger among Emirati and Arab communities. A police officer said Shaikh Sultan’s orders had already been executed, and they are searching for the individual who shot the video, as well as the person who shared it on social media.

The sports programme presented by Hamad, who organised the wedding ceremony of his son, will be stopped until the investigation is over.
