Four arrested in Sharjah for drug trafficking, 18,000 pills seized

The contraband was hidden inside a gas cylinder kept in a dhow that arrived from Iran to Sharjah.

The Sharjah Police on Sunday arrested a gang of four persons including three Iranians for drug trafficking and seized 18,000 pills of different types.

According to a senior official, the suspects were arrested in coordination with Dubai Police, from a dhow which arrived from Iran to Sharjah port. The pills were hidden in a gas cylinder kept in the dhow.

After the joint police action, named Gas Cylinder Operation, the police said the suspects planned to distribute the drug among youths.

Acting on a tip-off, the police formed a team of officers to keep surveillance on the suspects and they were arrested red-handed with possession of the drug. The suspects were part of the crew of the dhow which loaded with various types goods.

The suspects confessed to their crime and the case has been referred to public prosecution.
