Shaikh Mohammed meets Malaysian PM, discusses cooperation

His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, received the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Mohammad Najib Tun Haji Abdul Razak, at the Za’beel Palace on Thursday and the delegation accompanying him on his visit to the UAE.

During their meeting which was attended by Shaikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, and Shaikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai and prime minister Najib Razak had exchanges on a number of economic matters of common interest.

The two sides also stressed on the importance of strengthening the UAE and Malaysian bilateral relations, in particular in trade exchange and the building of economic partnerships that are mutually beneficial for their people.

The Malaysian prime minister expressed his confidence that his current visit to the UAE will contribute to finding new avenues for wider cooperation and building tourism and cultural bridges, alongside economic cooperation between the two countries.

Mr. Razak expressed his congratulations to His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai and the UAE’s leadership for winning the bid to host the World Expo 2020. He termed the win as well-deserved as the UAE is a gateway between the East and the West and a hub for the world’s cultures with outstanding civilization and hospitality.

Also present at the meeting were Shaikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and Chairman of Emirates Group, Mohammed Abdullah Al-Gargawi, Minister for Cabinet Affairs, Dr. Hadif bin Jowan Al-Dhahiri, Minister of Justice and head of the honourary mission accompanying the visiting Malaysian prime minister, Reem Ibrahim Al Hashimi, Minister of State, Mohammed Ibrahim Al Shibani, Director of Dubai Ruler’s Court, Lt. General Musabbah Rashid Al Fattan, Director of Dubai Ruler’s Office, Khalifa Saeed Sulaiman, Director of Protocol and Hospitality-Dubai, Andullah Mattar Al Mazrouie, UAE’s ambassador to Malaysia and Ahmed Anwar bin Adnan, Malaysian Ambassador to UAE.

Gen Shaikh Mohammed meets Malaysian PM

General Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, on Sunday received the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Mohammed Najib bin Tun Haji Abdul Razak, and his wife Rosmah Mansor, who are on a three-day official visit to the country along with an accompanying delegation.

An official welcoming ceremony was rolled out for the Malaysian prime minister as he arrived at Al Mushrif Palace where he and Gen Shaikh Mohammed headed to the podium of honour, during which both national anthems of the UAE and Malaysia were played and a 21-gun salute was fired in honour of the guest of the State.

Later, Gen Shaikh Mohammed presented Prime Minister Najib Razak with the Union Order in recognition of his efforts to elevate Malaysia’s bilateral relations with the UAE.

The two leaders discussed the cooperation, relations and friendship between UAE and Malaysia, as well as ways of supporting and promoting them in the service of the common interests of the two countries and their peoples.

“The ongoing growth of our outstanding relations is in the service of our two friendly countries and peoples and will enable us to build a model relationship in the quest for expanded cooperation in different educational, economic and investment areas,” said Gen Shaikh Mohammed.

Gen Shaikh Mohammed affirmed that such visits contribute to the strengthening of ties of cooperation between the two countries and their peoples. He emphasised that UAE, under the leadership of the President, His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, looks forward to increasing joint cooperation with all friendly countries in order to serve common interests.

On his part, Prime Minister Najib Razak expressed his delight at visiting the UAE and meeting Gen Shaikh Mohammed within the framework of economic, investment and development cooperation between their two countries. He hailed the growth and development achieved by the UAE and lauded its wise leadership which laid the foundations for a modern state that has a good international reputation.

Later, Gen Shaikh Mohammed hosted a lunch banquet in honour of the minister and his accompanying delegation.

UAE-funded mosque in Malaysia

Gen Shaikh Mohammed and Prime Minister Najib Razak also attended the signing ceremony of two Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) on tourism and higher education and an agreement on building a mosque complex in Bandar Malaysia.

In recognition of the outstanding relations between the two countries, the UAE’s General Authority of Islamic Affairs and Endowments (Awqaf) and the Malaysia Development Fund formalised an agreement to develop a mosque complex to be built in Bandar Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur.

Under the agreement, the Malaysian Fund, as the master developer of Bandar Malaysia, will provide a dedicated site for the project and the UAE’s Awqaf will fund the development of its design and construction.
