 to promote Arabic: Shaikh Mohammed

Filed on May 10, 2014

Shaikh Mohammed urged organisations, universities and the relevant ministries in the Arab world to lay the foundations for disseminating Arabic among the youth.

Calling on Arab elites, specialists and Arabic researchers to build bridges of communication, His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, attended the inaugural session of the third Arabic Language Conference at Al Bustan Rotana Dubai on Thursday.

Held under Shaikh Mohammed’s patronage and organised by the International Council for Arabic Language, the conference, themed “Investment in Arabic language and its national, Arabic and international future”, is being attended by more than 500 speakers and 1,000 participants from the UAE and the Arab world.

Shaikh Mohammed urged organisations, universities and the relevant ministries in the Arab world to lay the foundations for disseminating Arabic among the youth, and to encourage them to learn and understand their Arabic mother tongue and preserve it. Translation, training and organising seminars and specialised workshops were important for this, he said.

On the sidelines of the conference Shaikh Mohammed received a number of ministers, scholars and experts in the presence of Dubai Crown Prince Shaikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. Welcoming guests, he wished them success with the conference and urged them to come out with recommendations to preserve Arabic, the language of the Holy Quran.

Participants expressed pride in Shaikh Mohammed’s directives to protect, promote and develop Arabic. They hailed his national and pan-Arab initiatives, the most recent of which is the “Mohammed bin Rashid Arabic Language Award”. It is aimed at encouraging exceptional contributions in serving the Arabic language.

The meeting was attended by the Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development Shaikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Cabinet Affairs Minister Mohammed Abdullah Al Gergawi, Minister of Health and Board Chairman of the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority Abdul Rahman Al Owais, Director General of Dubai Ruler’s Court Mohammed Ibrahim Al Shiebani, senior officials and local and Arab educational figures and leaders.
