As many as 1,013 family sessions were held by the Sharjah Social Services Department (SSSD) in the last six months to help children meet their divorced parents and spend quality time with them.
Faiza Hassan Khabab, director of the family forum centre, said that it conducted 292 such meetings at homes while ensuring strict anti-Covid measures are adhered to. She pointed out the centre arranged the meetings at the house of kids' custodian after obtaining a signed agreement between the two parties.
The centre facilitated 721 such sessions on its premises, Khabab added.
Khabab said that before the Corona crisis, the centre used to receive dozens of children on a daily basis to enable them to see one of their parents. "The centre represents an ideal tool for achieving and implementing the meeting of children with divorced parents and limiting the social problems that the child is exposed to as a result of such negative family status."
159 inmates e-meet families
A total of 159 prisoners at Sharjah Central Jail 'virtually' met their families residing outside the country, Khabab said. She added: "The electronic meeting with inmate's families allowed the children see his parent. "This initiative has been launched by SSSD since 2017."
