KARACHI - The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has formed an enlarged 23-member Coordination Committee and a 10-member Organisational Committee endorsed by the London-based founder and chief of the party Altaf Hussain.

The announcement of new two committees was made by Altaf while addressing a general workers gathering at the party headquarters Nine Zero late on Sunday night.

Altaf, the undisputed leader of the MQM, told the workers that the decision to reorganise the party was taken due to changing circumstances, particularly in Karachi and Sindh province.

Dr Farooq Sattar, who was the head of the Coordination Committee in Karachi, has been made head of international diplomatic affairs as well as named the party’s parliamentary leader in the National Assembly.

Most of the members named for Karachi are old guards with few new faces. The notable omissions are Raza Haroon and Asif Siddiqui in Karachi and Salim Shahzad in London.

Amongst those who found favour are Engineer Nair Jamal, Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, a former state minister Dr Nusrat as deputy conveners of the coordination committee in Pakistan.

Other members are Adil Khan, Khaled Sultan, Amir Khan, Ahsan Afridi, Mian Ateeq, Yousuf Shahwani, Nisar Panhwar, Haider Abbas Rizvi, Nasreen Jalil, Dr Sagheer Ahmed, Wasay Jalil, Kanwar Naveed Jamil and Mumtaz Anwar.

In London, Nadeem Nusrat has been named as deputy convener and Mustafa Azizabadi, Tariq Javed, Mohmmed Ashfaq, Tariq Mir, Mohammed Anwar and Qasim Ali Reza are the new members.
