Field voting begins for Filipino expats
Mobile teams from the Philippine Consulate-General have begun conducting field voting to enable those living in remote areas to cast their ballots.
The teams have been working since Friday, aiming to ensure the 82,000 registered Filipino voters in Dubai and the Northern Emirates come out and vote in the month-long Overseas Absentee Voting (OAV) held in the lead up to the national election on May 13.
The team will conduct a three-day field voting at the Philippine School in Rashidiya from 8am to 12 noon on Sunday to Tuesday.
Vice-Consul Gerry Suliguin said all registered voters should bring proof of identification when they go to the school to vote. “Additional schedules shall be announced accordingly.”
The Special Board of Elections inspectors launched the field voting on Friday at Fujairah’s Hilton Hotel, Ras Al Khaimah’s Filipino Club, DIBC in Dubai, Digirati in Deira, Karama’s JIA Community UAE, and Vertical Space in Al Quoz. He urged all registered Filipino voters to participate in choosing the candidates for the 12 senatorial seats and one party list seat at the senate.
Field voting began following a resolution from the Philippine Commission on Elections (Comelec) allowing the consulate to conduct field voting to far-flung emirates for the 2013 national elections, he said.
At the consulate, OAV will continue simultaneously with the field voting, from Sunday to Thursday 8am to 8pm, and on Friday through Saturday, from 8am to 5pm.
