Interfaith Harmony award for Yusufali
TRIVANDRUM - M A Yusufali, Managing Director of UAE-based Emke Group, has won the prestigious Interfaith Harmony Award specially endowed with United Nations’ Interfaith Harmony Week initiatives and observations.
The award will be presented to him during the international seminar on Interfaith Harmony and Tolerance being organised by the International Islamic University, Malaysia and Kerala based Madin Islamic Academy at Kuala Lumpur on March 1.
A Madin Islamic Academy release here on Tuesday said that the award was aimed at strengthening the message of harmony and tolerance. It said that Yusufali was selected for the award in recognition of his promotional programmes on interfaith harmony initiatives that fortify the great slogan — unity in diversity.
The winner was selected by a jury comprising Dr Robert Dixon Crane, former US Ambassador to UAE, Sayyid Ibrahimul Khalcelul Bukhari, Ma’din Islamic Academy Professor, Abdelaziz Berghout, Deputy Rector of International Islamic University, Malaysia and Richard Owen, Editor of International Reportage, Hong Kong.
The jury commented: “Yusuffali is the fittest person for this award when we consider his great endeavours and social commitments. He is unique one even in his business world, where 27,000 people work together without any discrimination of religion, cast, creed and nationality.”
Born in a Muslim family in Thrissur, Yusuffali has been working for the welfare of all Indian religious communities, including Hindus and Christians.
The Indian government honoured him with the Pravasi Bhartiya Samman in 2005 for his contributions to the Indian community abroad. He was also conferred with Padma Shri in 2008.
