National Bonds celebrates World Savings Day
DUBAI - National Bonds Corporation PJSC, the Investment Company behind the leading Shariah-compliant savings scheme in the UAE, celebrated World Savings Day, which falls on Monday October 31, with a host of activities aimed at engaging the public and spreading awareness on the importance of savings.
The popular scheme held awareness sessions at universities across Dubai to commemorate the day and also set up a charity football tournament.
The awareness sessions were held on campus at Dubai Knowledge Village, Zayed University and Dubai International Academy. Savings kiosks were manned by National Bonds personnel to help people learn more about savings and assist them in opening National Bonds accounts if needed. In addition, football-lovers in the UAE had the opportunity to donate money to charity simply by scoring goals at the NBC Bondholders Cup. The football tournament took place on October 28 at Mirdif City Centre’s popular Soccer Circus indoor football courts, and saw 25 teams of National Bonds customers face off in league and knockout format for prizes totaling to Dh10,000 in addition to crystal trophies and medals for the winning teams.
For every goal that was scored, the savings scheme pledged to donate one bond (Dh10) to the Dubai Autism Centre. A total of 338 goals were scored during the tournament, which is a total of 338 bonds that National Bonds will donate, at a value of Dh3,380 to the Centre.
Bou Meera team walked away with the trophy and Dh5,000, defeating Super Quality team in the final by a score line of 3 - 1. Abdul Aziz Ali from Bou Meera team was chosen as best player while Shareef Ahmed from Super Quality team was chosen as Best Goalkeeper. The Fair Play trophy was won by Team Ultra.
