Zakat Fund eyes Dh72 million mark through campaign
ABU DHABI — Zakat Fund eyes to collect more than Dh72 million through this year’s campaign for generating annual Islamic charity (Zakat) as every Muslim is liable to allocate a particular amount of his annual savings as well as his asset for needy as per Shariah law.
Abdullah bin Aqeeda Al Muhairi, Secretary General of Zakat Fund announced here while launching the 7th media campaign under the slogan “Your Zakat is a Troth Inherited by Generations”
This years’ campaign would encourage the elderly to enhance the importance of Zakat among younger generation. According to Shariah, Zakat (annual Islamic alms tax, which is the third pillar of Islam) helps purify the money and prevail interconnection, compassion and cordiality values among people, said Al Muhairi.
In 2009, Zakat Fund received a total of Dh67 million of Zakat money, which was distributed to thousands of poor people all over the world. The revenues of ZF have been doubled during the first six month of 2010 reaching Dh25.1 million as well as the number of Zakat payers, which increased by 25 per cent during the same period, Al Muhairi said. He stressed the importance of Zakat in strengthening social bonds and instilling the spirit of compassion and brotherhood among the members of society.
