A Man With a Mission

Filed on January 16, 2010

Jimmy Engineer is a man with a cause. He stands tall, somber and deep in a thought. His passion to make a difference comes with a style of his own.

His courage and conviction to pick up critical issues of life and death and campaign for many of them to their logical end are widely regarded. Making peace between India and Pakistan is one of his lifetime obsessions. In the corridors of the World Zoroastrian Congress in Dubai, he was busy exhibiting his paintings on Muslim culture. His penchant for striking a unique semblance between different regional countries, and highlighting a common denominator is simply awesome.

A Man With a Mission (/assets/oldimages/mm_14.jpg)Though born in a Parsi family, he takes pride more as a humanist than aligning to any sect or religion. Irrespective of the fact that he belongs to a microscopic community, his vision crosses cultures and continents. But his love for Pakistan is stronger than any other commitment. Yet, he had the courage to walk across the length and breadth of Pakistan with an Indian flag in his hand in the year 2001, when both the countries were at the brink of war. He regrets that the weak political administration in India and Pakistan are responsible for the lack of warmth in relations. He says as long as they keep playing to the gallery, real peace in the subcontinent will remain a far cry. Jimmy hopes to see borderless but secure entities side by side, and advocates a couple of unpopular decisions to make the dream come true. In Dubai, he says it is fascinating to see Indians and Pakistanis live in harmony. Terming the UAE as a melting pot for people from the subcontinent, he hopes to dwell into a series of initiatives to harness more and more understanding between various nationalities in an endeavour to promote a culture and constituency of peace. An artist by heart, he has canvassed on the 1947 holocaust in order to depict, in detail, the sufferings of the partition. According to him, his work, which has won him laurels at home and abroad, and honorary citizenship of Houston, intends on capturing the imagination of successive generations of India and Pakistan and imbue in them a renewed spirit of tolerance and coexistence. Though a person of international acclaim, he is humble and down to earth. He wants to be counted among the dispossessed for it is with them that the real world and true faith lies.
