ABU DHABI - Another livestock vaccination campaign has been launched by the Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority (ADFCA) on Sunday to prevent cattle from contracting infectious and communicable diseases.

Mohammed Jalal Al Reyaysa, spokesperson of ADFCA, said, “The vaccination campaign is against foot-and-mouth disease. This is the latest phase of the campaign which includes the vaccination of livestock, sheep, goats and cattle at farms in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and the Western Region. The campaign will continue for a year until the rates of infections in livestock subside.”

The massive vaccination campaign is on in the emirate of Abu Dhabi emirate to reduce the risk of diseases which destroy entire breed of cattle, while some deadly diseases particularly emanate from them and transmit to human beings.

The foot mouth disease (FMD) epidemic is one of the fast-spreading virus, which infects cloven-hoofed animals including cows, sheep, goats and deer, leading to significant economic losses as a result a sharp decline in the productivity of milk and the death of large numbers of small animals, Al Reyaysa said. anwar@khaleejtimes.com
