DUBAI After 10 days of intense competition among 77 contestants and a rich cultural programme of 35 lectures, the 13th session of the Dubai International Holy Quran Award (DIHQA) came to a close on Monday night.

His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, will give away awards and certificates to the winners during the closing ceremony on Thursday night at the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Germany-based diplomat Dr. Murad Wilfried Hofmann will also be honoured at the event as the Islamic Personality of the Year. The Chairman of the DIHQA Organising Committee, Ibrahim Bu Melha, said the success of this session has surpassed all expectations. “The organising committee, which is always geared up early enough with tremendous activities, has exerted much effort that led to the award’s success,” he said.

“A contest for people with special needs is also under study. We are considering the rules of this new branch to fit this important segment of the society,” he said.

The programme of the art of recitation, which is aimed at producing a group of Emirati memorisers certified in the Quran schools of recitation, is also in progress.
