Saudi Lifts Ban on Pakistan Poultry Products Exports

KARACHI - Saudi Arabia has officially announced lifting of ban on import of poultry products from Pakistan.

Although the export of poultry products to Saudi Arabiahasnot beenon a large scale, it had been earning millions of dollars of foreign exchange over the years.

Saudi Arabia had slapped a ban on import of chicken meat and eggs from Pakistan owing to growing concerns regarding spread of bird flu that hit the western world.

The World Health Organisation, or WHO, has now declared Pakistan free from bird flu allowingthe country to resume exports of its poultry products to Saudi Arabia.

The news of lifting of the ban was welcomed by Pakistan poultry exporters who expect the volume of exports to the kingdom togrow considerableyin future as the country has enough resources to double its target to earn the much-needed foreign exchange.
