ABU DHABI - A huge fire gutted a glass factory in the Musaffah industrial area of Abu Dhabi on Thursday.
Three workers received treatment for suffocation at the hospital.
First Lieutenant Abdullah Al Tamimi, Director of Public Relations of Civil Defence of Abu Dhabi said the fire broke out at noon and lasted till 3pm.
It took six teams of firemen of the Civil Defence to put the situation under control after strong winds had worsened the situation earlier.
Al Tamimi said the plant lacked safety equipment and fire extinguishers.
He added that the civil defence teams rushed to the fire location and evacuated the labourers from the factory to the assembly area away from the fireand prevented the fire fromspreading to the neighbouring areas.
Al Tamimi said the cause of the fire was underinvestigation and the case has been referred to the criminal investigations department of Abu Dhabi Police. He pointed out that the plant had several chemical substances that helped spread the fire.
