Bid to promote research in transport planning
ABU DHABI - The Department of Transport (DoT) in Abu Dhabi has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the UAE University in Al Ain for promoting research and training in the areas of transportation planning and engineering.
The agreement, which will remain in force for an initial period of three years, was signed to support the Department of Transport's policy agenda 2007-2008 of the Abu Dhabi emirate plan by 2030.
The agreement reflects the vision of the President, His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, for the continued fulfilment of the grand plans for Abu Dhabi envisaged by the late Shaikh Zayedbin Sultan Al Nahyan.
The Chairman of the Department of Transport, Abdullah Rashid Al Otaiba, said that the MOU would boost cooperation and collaboration in all areas of transportation research, training and other related subjects of common interest.
"Transportation research is needed to set priorities and identify problem areas so that we can formulate our future policies in order to improve the overall infrastructure of Abu Dhabi," he clarified.
It will also create training and develope opportunities in the areas of transportation planning and engineering and launch internship projects for university students and other researchers.
"We remain fully committed to promote innovation and research into all areas of transport as not only will this ultimately deliver a better integrated transport system for the emirate, but will also improve safety and mobility and promote economic growth in the country," Al Otaiba added.
