First archaeology documentary on UAE to be released in April
ABU DHABI - The first archaeology documentary covering the entire UAE territory is being produced by the young Anasi media company, established by Shaikha Alyaziyah bin Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan.
The film, titled A Country for Future … a Nation for History, will be ready by the middle of April and released on one of the major international satellite TV channels.
Wissan Riad Zebian, the film director, told Khaleej Times that the 45-50 minutes production is shot on high-definition digital format, using a prime (cinematic) lens.
“We started shooting one and a half months ago, but first we spent one month researching and exploring locations, which was one of the most difficult parts in making this documentary. We did receive, though, great support from all government offices and institutions,” said Zebian.
”Another difficulty was shooting in the desert, as it required cleaning the equipment after each session,” he added.
All the seven emirates and the most prominent archaeological sites are covered in the film, although Abu Dhabi, especially the Western Region and Al Ain area, are the heavyweight.“The archaeological finds revealed in the documentary date as far back as the Miocene Period, millions of years ago. For example, we are showing a mammoth elephant footprint, found in Al Ruwais area in the Western Region, which is about eight million years old. In fact, this whole area was, in those early times, more like a jungle – very green, with rich flora and fauna, including elephants and crocodiles,” explained Zebian.
