Conference to help build bridges and unite female students

DUBAI Girl students of Zayed University would "build bridges" with their counterparts from 60 universities across the world next week.


Dr Sulaiman Al Jassim, Vice-President of the university, yesterday announced the university's third Women as Global Leaders Conference.

More than 2,000 delegates from 60 countries, including education, government and non-government organisations would be attending the conference to be held at Madinat Jumeirah in Dubai from March 10 to March 12.

Addressing a Press conference, Dr Jassim said, "Shaikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and President of Zayed University, would open the conference, which aims to build bridges that unite female students from around the world as participants meet with internationally renowned women leaders, share ideas, and engage in debate on 'Learning Leadership', the theme of the conference."

It would focus on women's emergent and current leadership roles across the globe as well as the practice of educating students on leadership.

The three-day event, being held under the patronage of Shaikha Fatima bint Mubarak, President of the Family Development Foundation, General Women's Union and Arab Women's Organisation, would see presentations by prominent world leaders and personalities, who would share ideas on leadership.

Paper presentations, simulations and workshops would also be held.

The speakers include Shaikha Manal bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Women Establishment, wife of Shaikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Presidential Affairs; Reem Ibrahim Al Hashemi, UAE Minister of State; actress Jane Fonda; Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, CEO, advocate, philanthropist and author; Carol Bellamy, former Head of Unicef, CEO of World Learning and President of the School for International Training; and Helen Thomas, journalist and author.
