Dubai being recognised as regional hub for wood industry
DUBAI — Japan, Switzerland and Denmark will set up national pavilions at the third edition of the Dubai Woodshow next month to mark their first participation in the Middle East’s largest exhibition dedicated to the wood and wood products sector.
Dawood Al Shezawi, managing director of event organiser Strategic Marketing &Exhibitions, said the industry is poised for further growth because it has planned projects worth Dh551 billion ($150 billion).
“The increased interest from wood suppliers [worldwide] bears witness to the growing importance of the wood industry in the booming real estate market,” he said. “We believe that the emergence of Dubai as a hub for the regional wood industry is being recognised by industry players.”
Dubai plays host to a number of local, regional and international exhibitions, which have been achieving an average of 40 per cent growth per annum. “Dubai’s ideal business and geographical landscape has drawn an enormous opportunity for the exhibition sector to thrive,” Shezawi said.
The Dubai Woodshow would host 120 international participants at the Dubai Airport Expo on February 5-7, according to a Press statement released yesterday by Strategic Marketing & Exhibitions.
It said that the exhibition has become a “powerful platform” for players in the construction and furniture industries to showcase their innovative technologies and state-of-the-art equipment.
“As a result, the exhibition has experienced unprecedented growth in terms of its profile, which now encompasses a showcase of the region’s top wood, wood products and machinery companies from more than 25 countries,” it added.
It stressed that the exhibition has grown 400 per cent since its launch in 2006. This year’s edition is expected to rise by 150 per cent in the number of attendees. It said that interactive seminars addressing various industry issues would be held on the sidelines of the exhibition.
