This 9-year old needs a ‘big heart’ from you Filed on September 30, 2007

DUBAI — Nine-year-old Arwa Javed has not enjoyed a normal life since birth, say her parents.

Arwa JavedWhen she was born in Rawalpindi, Pakistan, in 1998, Arwa’s parents had no way of knowing that their girl child was suffering from a congenital heart disease.

“She seemed normal except that she gets tired easily after any physical activity which we found out only after she was a little older. It was only when we moved to Dubai, we realised that there is something seriously wrong with her,” says Javed Afzal, who is an instructor at a driving school here.

Arwa has two elder brothers who are normal. She attends school, but not regularly. “She is able to go only if her condition is okay. Doctors have told us that if we do not have her heart surgery done as soon as possible, her life could be at risk,” says the father.

According to doctors, Arwa has a block in her heart which leads to shortness of breath and high blood pressure, threatening her survival.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Association Dubai has appealed to the community to help raise funds for Arwa’s treatment. “We have studied the case and we know it is genuine,” say members of the association.

“I have already received donations amounting to Dh70,000 but nearly Dh180,000 is needed,” says Javed.

“In another 15 days, we have to take her to the United Kingdom for her life-saving operation,” he adds.

Donations can be sent to Pakistan Association Dubai’s account number 08-010-4622-9, UBL Deira Branch, Dubai.
