Marine transport to link Nakheel projects
DUBAI -. All yachts and ship anchorages in the Dubai Creek will be reorganised while marine transport executed by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) will be used to link all Nakheel projects such as Palm Jumeirah, Palm Jebel Ali, Palm Deira, The World and other developments that will be executed by 2020.
This was decided at a high level meeting of officials recently, who also approved maintenance areas for the marine abra transport and a facility to connect Dubai City with the Waterfront project.
The meeting was headed by Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and RTA Executive Director, who met Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Chairman of Dubai World.
During the meeting they discussed many RTA projects like the marine transport station areas, the anchorage of dhows in Dubai Creek, trams in Al Sofouh Area, metro stations and the timing programme for the 4th bridge on Dubai Creek that directly serves Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation (PCFC) and Nakheel Projects.
Talking about Dubai Metro, the meeting approved to connect the monorail in Palm Jumeirah to the Tram Station in Al Sofouh Road and the Red Line of the metro on Shaikh Zayed Road. They also discussed the financing of the two metro stations in Ibn Battutah Mall and Jumeirah Lake Project and the timing programme of the 4th bridge on Dubai Creek that includes three phases.
The main construction works in the first phase include the construction of the upper bridge on Dubai Creek and other related roadworks to Dubai Festival City, Marrakesh Road and to Al Rabat Road, construction of a vehicles tunnel near Al Rabat Intersection with Marrakesh Road, re-arranging the right-lane of Al Garhoud Bridge with the lighting, drainage and irrigation systems in the project.
The second phase includes the construction of the seven upper bridges and two lower bridges, while the first phase includes construction of a bridge over Dubai Creek in addition to upper intersections, lower bridges in Nad Al Hamar Road intersection with Al Rabat Road, and construction of the upper bridge and a bridge in Dubai Festival City area.
The third phase (A) includes completion of the Ras Al Khor bridge project that is located in Bur Dubai and connects Ras Al Khor Bridge with other parts of the bridge directed towards Al Khail Road.
The project also includes five upper bridges and development works on Oud Metha road and second Za'abeel Road and also a class intersection on Oud Metha Road with the second Za'abeel Road including guiding signs, service conversions, lighting and planting works.
The third phase (B) includes construction of five simple pedestrian bridges over the Water Tunnel of the Gulf Bay project, bridges to connect the 4th bridge with the upper and lower levels to Al Doha Street, bridge over Al Khail Road, new five-lane roads, widening of Al Khail Road to five lanes on each side till a kilometre south of intersection No.16.
The meeting was also attended by Maitha bin Adai, Chief Executive Officer of Traffic and Roads Agency, Engineer Abdul Majeed Al Khajah, Chief Executive Officer of the Rail Agency, Engineer Essa Al Dosari, Chief Executive Officer of Marine Transport Agency, Engineer Nabeel Mohammed Saleh, Director of Roads Department, Engineer Khalid Al Zahid, Director of External Marine Transport Department, Engineer Ahmed Al Hammadi, Assistant Director of the Internal Marine Transport Department and Dr. Khalid Ahmed Hamdi, Projects Advisor, Office of the Board Chairman, RTA.Representing Dubai World were Adnan Al Naqi, General Manager of Palm Deira, Ali bin Thaleth, General Manager of Nakheel Marinas, Hamed bin Lahej, General Manager of Jadaf Dubai and Abdul Rahman Kalanter General Manager of Planning and Infrastructure.
