The raffle, the-first-of-its-kind promotion, is being organised by the DSS Office, in association with Arabian Gulf Mechanical Centre (AGMC), the exclusive importer of BMW, MINI and Rolls-Royce in Dubai, Sharjah and Northern Emirates, and Emarat. As part of the promotion, every week one winner walks away with a BMW X3, a BMW 520i and Dh100,000 in cash bringing the total value of the weekly prize money to Dh450,000.

Ibrahim Saleh, Chief Operations Officer of Dubai Summer Surprises, said: "The Dubai Summer Surprises opens the doors for all the people, both residents and the visitors, to participate and stand a chance to be chosen as the winner of prizes worth Dh450,000 as part of the Grand Summer Raffle. A total of 20,000 tickets were sold in the first weeks of DSS 2004 and the fourth draw is scheduled for Friday (today)."

He added that the tickets for the fifth draw of the Grand Summer Raffle, each worth Dh200, are currently on sale and the people have evinced a lot of interest in buying the tickets. "The tremendous response to the DSS 'Grand Summer Raffle' coupons has far exceeded our expectations. The enthusiasm over the promotion will continue to grow as more and more visitors are descending on Dubai for the extravaganza," Mr Saleh added.

The raffle, which involves 5,000 tickets every week, has generated a lot of interest about the residents and visitors alike, building on the enthusiasm generated by the wide array of activities showcased during the DSS, he added.

As part of the three weekly Grand Summer Raffle draws till date, which were held on June 18, June 25 and July 2, a total of 10 people representing different nationalities had the Lady Luck smiling on them. In the first draw on June 18, Kunnapalli Abdul Kareem, an Indian, won the raffle, along with four of his colleagues and friends.

In the second draw, held on June 25, Ayman Sheikh Khaleel, a Palestinian, got together with three of his friends, all of whom have been continuously buying tickets for years. Though belated, Lady Luck finally smiled on Mr. Khaleel and his friends. In the third Grand Summer Raffle draw, which was held on July 2, a Belgian Frank Wellens' coupon won him two BMW cars and Dh100,000 in cash.
