Each day around 2,000 amnesty-seekers from Abu Dhabi and other emirates approach the embassy which has declared August 13 as the last date of receiving of applications.

For regularisation of status, the embassy has returned over 2,800 passports to people. “Till now, the Indian embassy has received nearly 2,000 applications from amnesty-seekers at the mission and prepared approximately 1,600 emergency certificates (EC), besides issuing 850 outpasses,” said First Secretary Shrinivas Babu .

Around 2,000 applications are lying with the mission for fingerprinting, he added.

“Due to the sudden increase in the number of amnesty-seekers at the mission, the embassy is seeking police help to manage the crowd in front of the embassy,” said Babu.
