2,000 outpasses issued to Indians

DUBAI — Heavy rush of amnesty-seekers was seen at Indian Association, Sharjah, and Indian High School, Dubai yesterday as the distribution of outpasses began.

Indian consulate spokesperson B.S. Mubarak said all the applications received for outpasses until June 30 have been processed.

“We opened the centres yesterday, specially to speed up the distribution process,” he said.

“The proceedings at both centres were very smooth. As many as 2,000 outpasses were distributed yesterday,” said Mubarak. Meanwhile, a statement from the Indian consulate said, “As of July 12, the consulate had received 20,490 applications for Emergency Certificates (ECs). It has processed 8,881 ECs. Of the 27,000 passports received from the Immigration authorities, the consulate has distributed 6,203 passports their respective holders.”

The amnesty period will an end in the first week of September and the consulate will stop accepting fresh applications for ECs from August 2.
