2,687 Construction Licences Issued

abu dhabi— A total of 2,687 construction licences were issued by the Abu Dhabi Municipality during the current year, a senior official disclosed.

“Of these, 134, 852, 462 and 240 licences were issued for commercial, residential, industrial, and public utility sectors respectively.

Some 899 licences were issued for addition to low-income housing schemes.

Ali Shuja, head of development projects licensing, Abu Dhabi Muncipality, told Khaleej Times: “These new developments will contribute to easing the housing crisis.”

“The decline in demolition orders was attributed to the fact that the committee for Settlement of Rental Disputes in Abu Dhabi stipulates that no old building should be brought down unless there are new ones coming up to solve the rent crisis,” he said.
