2 million sources of digital content at DDL

Dubai - At its launch in 2016, the MBRF said the aim of the Dubai Digital Library was to provide advanced platforms that facilitate knowledge sharing of the Arab culture.

The Dubai Digital Library (DDL) now has more than two million sources of digital content on its platform following its launch in 2016. There is a new mobile application too.
"Three years ago, the dream was to launch one of the biggest Arabic content digital libraries, which converted Arabic knowledge to a global audience. Today, I am happy to see that happening," Jamal bin Huwaired, CEO of the Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation (MBRF), said on the sidelines of Gitex Technology Week.
At its launch in 2016, the MBRF said the aim of the Dubai Digital Library was to provide advanced platforms that facilitate knowledge sharing of the Arab culture.
And Huwaired, a researcher himself, said it has been successful in doing that.
"This platform gathers as much information as possible about the Arabic civilisations, without breaching the copyright of the author. I am a researcher myself and even I use the library to look up information I am after."
Arabic language content makes up about 80 per cent of the current information on the platform while around 20 per cent is English content.
"Chinese language content will be available in a month's time. And by next Gitex Technology Week, we will have more languages available," Prof Khaled Abdelfaftah Mohamed, director of the DDL and Knowledge Solutions, told Khaleej Times.
