SHARJAH — Around 150 shops were fined for various violations and 240 were given warnings in May for breaching market regulations.
The action was taken during routine inspections by officials of Sharjah Municipality’s Market Control Section.
The inspectors confiscated a huge quantity of counterfeit products, including garments, bags, watches, CDs and batteries. They also destroyed a huge quantity of vegetables and fruits that were found unfit for human consumption.
Tarqi Al Hamadi, head of the Market Control Section, said 88 vendors were arrested during the swoop last month.
“Tough measures taken by the municipality have helped to reduce such illegal practices significantly,” he said.
