A police official said the CID received a tip-off on June 25 that a group of people of various Asian nationalities had been involved in gambling in Rafaa area in Dubai. The police later learnt that the suspects, aged between 25 and 50, were staying in a flat taken by an Asian group led by an Indian, R, to gamble and drink alcohol.

The police set up a team and assigned undercover police agents to monitor the group, who gathered on a daily basis in the old building in Rafaa area for gambling.

After getting permission from the Dubai Public Prosecution, the police raided the house and arrested the men red-handed and seized playing cards and thousands of dirhams from them.

During their interrogations, all the 13 suspects confessed to gambling on a daily basis, saying most of them had been spending more than half their salaries on gambling.

During the police investigation, R. too confessed to taking the flat for the purposes of gambling and consuming alcohol.
