The cargo ship, carrying 3,000 tonnes of cement, sank around 9am near Iran.

The ship was expected to reach Dubai on Thursday.

Official sources told Khaleej Times that another ship, which was passing through the area, rescued 12 sailors who jumped into the sea after the ship sank.

The rescued sailors have been taken to the Siri Island in Iran.

The company that owns the cargo ship and the Dubai coastal guard have sent two barrages to lift the ship which is still half lying submerged and lashed by huge waves.
