10 held in Sharjah gambling den raid

SHARJAH — The Sharjah police, reacting to a tip-off, recently caught 10 Indians red handed for gambling.

They were arrested from a room on the ground floor of an apartment in Al Nasr building in Al Majaz area, according to a police source.

The police seized Dh35,545 and $1,202 from the gamblers, eight pack of cards used for gambling, and two whisky bottles from the premises. Interestingly, when the police raided the room, three of the offenders jumped out of the window. Two of them received only minor injuries, while the third man who sustained serious injuries has been admitted to Kuwaiti Hospital for medical treatment.

The police told Khaleej Times that the tip-off came from another Indian, who had called the police several times.

Those arrested include: Kurian. D, Nazir. W, Kutty. K., Abu Bakr K, Nile. Y, Dasat. I, Abdul Razaq. M, Omar. M, Konhi.M., and Asqar. N.

The case has been referred to the public persecution department.

The police said these 10 Indians caused considerable disturbance to the tenants of the building, where they drank and gambled every evening.
