Often I am asked why I chose theatre over cinema. And I find it tough to come up with an answer that will satisfy one and all. As the curtains close, figuratively, I watch director Jimesh Thakkar, stand in the middle of the stage. Surrounding him is his cast and crew. They have done a brilliant job and he knows that. I watch him absorb the reviews of an art form, which does not require of one to wait for BO returns. For, theatre lies in the moment. Its success lies in the truth that it does not allow you retakes. And this show, got a standing applause!
The Miracle Worker, a bold tale, very well told. Interspersed with laughter and tears.
Mehr Thakkar lives up to the character, the spirit of the individual Helen was. Humera Sultan plays Annie and breaks down watching her student learn a language that allows her to do more than communicate. The father and mother (Priyanka & Satyen), the Kellers, depict the love, helplessness, and joy of raising and nurturing a special child. The supporting cast delivers great performances as well.
The classic staged in black and white impresses you with the well-designed set, selection of props, and great choice of music. The children from the local theatre company Hive leave you wanting for more. The teamwork visible in the act at every step.  There's courage, inspiration, and passion in the tale of Helen Keller and the cast's belief in the same shows.
What you take home? Moments of brilliance. Local theatre of Dubai needs more patrons. Begin now. Two more shows tomorrow.
P.S: Many scenes of the play have the protagonists acting on the floor, whom you'd miss to see if you are seated anywhere else other than perhaps row one or two.
