Iranian jailed for drug trafficking

DUBAI — Dubai Criminal Court has sentenced Kazem Ali, 44-years old Iranian national, to four years in jail followed by deportation for possessing and trafficking 164gm of kodine, 25gm of Hashish and 26 gm of opium.

ABU DHABI — Two UAE nationals were arrested on charges of kidnapping, theft, issuing threat and impersonating as police officers while one of them would face the additional charge of raping a Sri Lankan woman working in a hotel in the capital.

DUBAI – The Dubai Misdemeanor Court has sentenced Abu Bakar Sidiqque, an Indian, to one year in jail followed by deportation besides a fine of Dh2000 for possession and selling alcohol and for violating UAE Labour Law since he was working for a company which was not his sponsor.

Cheques bounce

DUBAI — The Dubai Misdemeanour Court has sentenced Ravindran, a 30-year-old Indian, for issuing dud cheques amounting to Dh12,525. The accused, who works as a sales representative for a commercial company in Al Fuhaidi area, issued cheques withdrawn on Mashreqbank against some purchases. He paid Dh4,000 of the total value of the cheque.

‘Sharjah slasher’ says not guilty of charges

SHARJAH — Jude Pereira, the 28-year-old Sri Lankan accused of being the ‘Sharjah Slasher’, gave a new twist to the case when he claimed he was innocent in the court. He pleaded not guilty in the presence of his lawyer, Abdul Kareem Ahmad bin Eid of Busit of Al Rokn and Associates. Pereira was arrested by the police on March 14, bringing to an end weeks of tension and panic among Sharjah residents who were terrified by the series of slashing incidents that took place in February. He confessed to the police that he was involved in the incidents, and even claimed that he was not in a stable frame of mind.

DUBAI — Mahadi F, a 22-year-old Iranian was sentenced to death by the Dubai Criminal Court on charges of murdering a fellow Iranian, who met with a ghastly death for the good samaritan role he played to the former.

Court begins trial of an Arab company manager

DUBAI — The Dubai Court of First Instance has started hearing the case of an Arab company manager, who was accused by the Dubai General Prosecution of sending letters through fax to the Dubai Naturalisation and Residency Deparment ((DNRD), criticising its regulations and abusing Brig Saeed Al Mattar bin Belailah, Director of DNRD.
