A woman from Dallas hoped it was a "Christmas miracle" when her bank account went up by $37 million (approx. Dh135m) last week. But for Ruth Balloon, the happiness was short-lived as the bank told her the money had been transferred to her account accidentally.
"On Tuesday evening I was checking my bank to see the balance and to randomly check on our transactions. I logged into the app and noticed the $37million in green," the mother-of-two, 35, was quoted as saying in Daily Mail.
She called her husband, Brian, 39, who initially thought it was a scam until the bank told them it was an error by a teller who punched in an account number as the figure. "I hoped someone really gifted us with that. I was a millionaire, I have a screen shot of it so I can say that now. It's quite a story," Balloon added.
During her short spell as a millionaire, Balloon had already planned how she would use the money. ''First I was going to do 10 per cent tithing, then I was going to donate some money and then I would have invested in real estate," she said.
However she clarified, "even if the amount was a real transfer, I knew the money did not belong to us," Balloon added.
