How about a hotel that pays for your travel and offers all services for free? A hotel in Missouri is offering $3,500 (Dh12,856 approx) to its guests to stay at their place - but there is a catch.
St. Louis University's Center for Vaccine Development has converted part of its former hotel into a 24-room research suite dubbed as ?Hotel Influenza'. Here, guests will be intentionally exposed to influenza and quarantined.
According a Forbes report, the university announced that guests at the hotel will be paid volunteers as part of a human challenge study that aims to evaluate the efficacy of vaccines. The motive is to expose volunteers to influenza and then evaluate their response. Researchers are offering $3500 to cover each volunteer's travel expenses.
Guests at 'Hotel Influenza' will get to stay in hotel-style rooms equipped with private bathrooms, TV, internet and, catered meals.
Occupants who become sick will be given 24-hour medical care to minimise their discomfort. However, owing to the risk of transmission, they won't be allowed to leave until they stop shedding the virus which normally takes about 10 days.
Researchers hope to improve seasonal flu vaccines with a long-term goal of developing a universal vaccine that can cover multiple strains of flu. Organizers expect a pilot study will be up and running within the next six months.
Book your stay in advance as there are only 24 rooms at this Missouri getaway, if you dare.
