Al Ain have the perfect blend of youth and experience. And the reigning Arabian Gulf League champions are confident of their chances in the historic Fifa Club World Cup final against the mighty Real Madrid.
Emirati midfielder Amer Abdulrahman said the players will strain every sinew to pull off a surprise in the most important match in the club history.
"Yes, Real Madrid are a big team. So, we need to be fully focused, redouble our efforts and need to have a bit of luck. This is the only way to keep pace with Real," Amer said.
He said Al Ain players were aware that Real Madrid - arguably the greatest team in club football history - will come out all guns blazing.
"Real are accustomed to playing big matches like the Champions League final. So, this isn't a very big match for Real. But they will not take it easy. We know that very well," Amer said of the three-time Fifa Club World Cup champions.
Amer said the players will follow the instructions of head coach Zoran Mamic.
"We have our briefing. We will stick to his plans. We hope to fight till the end," he said.
Amer, a key player in the UAE national team, noted there was an extra responsibility as they were playing on the biggest stage of them all. "This final is a truly international event. We want to represent the country in the best possible manner," Amer said.
Meanwhile, Swedish star Marcus Berg, who played in the Fifa World Cup earlier this year, said the team had already proved their worth.
"We deserve this final. We're proud of what we've achieved so far as our performances have been really impressive. We're in the final on merit," the striker said.
He said the players were living a dream and can't wait to be on the pitch with the Real superstars.
"This was our dream from the very beginning, from the moment we'd won the UAE League title. But our opponents were all continental champions. So on paper, at least, we weren't expected to get this far in this competition. We've shown everyone what we can do on the pitch," the former PSV striker said.
Berg said the final will be the most difficult test for the 'Boss'.
"The final is going to be extremely difficult, but we still aim to win the title. The difficulty lies in the physical aspect as we've played three games in a short span and that might affect us. But we need to be positive and summon all our powers in the final. If we perform well, we might have a chance. As for our plan, the coach certainly has an idea about the tactics we'll employ against the European champions."
Al Ain players are banking heavily on their fans to turn up in big numbers and be their No. 12.
"They showed us what they can do in the stands," Berg added.
And it will be rocking atmosphere at a sold-out Zayed Sports City on Saturday evening.
