The Sharjah Sharia Court of First Instance has fined four teachers Dh10,000 each for revealing questions for the examinations of Grade 12 of a school via WhatsApp. The teachers also sent students answers via WhatsApp in the examination hall. The court found the teachers guilty of using social media to carry out illegal work.

According to court records, A.A has lodged a complaint about cheating by students of Grade 12 of a Sharjah school. Police investigation found that the four defendants had supplied questions to the students and then later sent them answers as they took the exam.

The first suspect confessed that he was the member of a WhatsApp group where he received the questions. Then, he sent those to a girl student whom he taught. He admitted during the investigation that he received Dh1,000 for sending her the examination questions and answers, which he received half an hour after he received the questions.

Another teacher said he used to get questions from the third suspect and he gave it to the students for Dh200 and Dh500, which he received through a money exchange. The third suspect said that he also got the questions and answers from the WhatsApp group, which he sent to 13 students.

Earlier, the Ministry of Education had referred the file of question paper leak to the Legal Department to investigate. It was found that there is a group including large number of students of Grade 12 who used to leak question papers on WhatsApp.

A new teacher at the school joined the WhatsApp group pretending to be a student, and made sure that the group shared questions and answers of examinations. She then informed the authorities who kept a tab on the students and teachers.
