The number of licences issued to new businesses registered in Dubai rose three per cent since December 2018.
The total number of licences issued from the start of 2019 to April 15 reached 7,418. The number of licences issued, as documented by the Department of Economic Development in Dubai, rose steadily from 252,580 to 260,998 during the first half of April, according to statistics from the National Economic Registry, a branch of the Ministry of Economy.
An earlier report by the Dubai Economic Registration and Licencing Sector highlighted the fact that the number of new licences issued in January 2019 totalled 2,046, which covered various types of businesses, rising by 20 per cent compared to January 2018.
The new licences issued in January included commercial licences, which accounted for 64.5 per cent, while professional licences accounted for 33.7 per cent, tourism licences for 1.2 per cent, and industrial licences for 0.6 per cent. The registry also documented a significant growth in the number of limited liability companies that had applied for licences, which numbered 177,136 by the end of the first half of April, rising by 3,823 compared to 173,313 licences at the end of 2018.
This rise in the number is not exclusive to limited liability companies, according to the registry's statistics, which also highlighted an increase in the number of licences issued to individual companies by 3,040 since the start of 2019, bringing the total number to 76,311 by the end of the first half of April 2019.
