As many as 533 complaints against repair shops were received and handled by the Department of Economic Development in the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah in the first six months of this year.
These included 68 complaints against automobile repair shops across the emirate, said Yusuf Al Balooshi, director of the trade protection section at the department. "The 68 complaints were lodged against electric and tyre repair vehicle centres, along with spare parts shops."
Al Balooshi said they have also received 56 complaints against electronics and air conditioners' repairing outlets.
"We have 41 complaints against the emirate's pharmacies, and 39 complaints against decoration, carpentry, paints, and marbles shops."
Some other complaints were against supermarkets, as well as phone and clothes shops as well as sewing and fashion stores.
"Most of the complaints received stemmed from customers' unawareness of the rights," he said, advising the public to take time to check before buying any product and keep the bills and invoices of the items.
The department spares no effort to safeguard customer rights, and attend to all complaints.
"All members of the society are urged to show cooperation with the bodies concerned to curb such illegal practices."
Meanwhile, the department has launched an initiative targeting all commercial entities in the emirate under the theme 'Your protection, our responsibility'.
"The move is in response to the huge number of complaints received against several repair shops."
Daily inspection raids are to be launched against all shops until the end of the year, Al Balooshi pointed out.
"Staff inspectors have paid 50 inspection visits to auto repair shops across the emirate, including remote ones."
