We have a great selection of new movies released this week. Among the movies, the top attraction is the Boss Baby, followed by Ghost in the Shell, Noor and many others.

The Boss Baby

There are so many conflicting reports about this movie, we're not sure what to believe. The general consensus is, it's not as good as a Pixar animation both visually and in terms of the writing, but it isn't bad. Some people also love it and others absolutely despise it. All we can seem to fathom is, whereas Pixar produces equal laughs and points of emotion for adults and kids, The Boss Baby appears to be solely aimed at a younger audience. Judging from the sheer volume of PR campaign materials out there (the rule is; the more adverts and personal appearances by actors, the worse the film), it doesn't appear to be a hit with kids either.

The only conceit the picture possesses is that the main character, an animated baby, is voiced by the gravelly silver fox Alec Baldwin and wears a suit. The rest of the plot is incidental and not particularly engaging. There's a secret war between babies and puppies. Puppies are getting more love than babies and it is The Boss Baby's job to find out why, all the while gradually healing the rift between his jealous older brother and he. We're not overly impressed.
Rotten Tomatoes gives it 52%
Trivia: Jimmy Kimmel and Lisa Kudrow also star.

Ghost in the Shell

So much has already been written about this movie and its allegations of whitewashing. What we're concerned with is, is it any good? Turns out; depends who you ask.

Reviews have been harsh from fans of the genre. What we do know is this is an intriguing story and Scarlett Johansson is an amazing performer. Should the producers have remained faithful to the source material, yes. Should they have tried to explain their choice away in the movie quite so ham-fistedly? No. But will we give it a bit of a chance? No, but we're not going to kick it too much either.
IMDb gives it 6.8
Trivia: Japanese director of the original Ghost in the Shell, Mamoru Oshii, has said "I believe having Scarlett play Motoko was the best possible casting for this movie."

Unforgettable

A psycho-thriller the likes of which we haven't seen for a while. It's your classic, boy marries girl. Boy divorces girl. Boy finds new girl. Old girl tries to murder new girl. If you're in a new relationship, you may wish to avoid this one.

The excellent Rosario Dawson stars as Geoff Stult's new love and Katherine Heigl as his jealous ex determined to take down her former husband's new lady.
There are so far no ratings for this.
Trivia: Kate Hudson and Kerry Washington were originally cast.

I, Daniel Blake

Kicking off the new dedicated independent cinema screening theatre, DIFF365@Vox, Ken Loach's I, Daniel Blake will be on that one screen for the next two weeks and we urge you to see it. If you're fed up with Hollywood sheen, this is the antithesis of a blockbuster.

Set in Newcastle, Daniel is a kind-hearted soul who relies on state welfare as a result of an accident which has left him unable to work. When the government deems him fit to return to his job, but his doctor strenuously advises against it, Daniel is caught in the Kafkaesque bureaucracy that blights thousands with disabilities trying to make a genuine claim for relief.
Rotten Tomatoes gives it 93%
1971: Beyond Borders (Malayalam)
Mohanlal takes on a military role Major Ravi must rightfully be given the credit of bringing well-crafted war films to Malayalam cinema. His own experience as an army man has come in handy in directing films that exuded a sense of realism in war sequences. Now he is back with an out-and-out war film, complete with all the JP Dutta-esque elements of family, call of duty, brotherhood, chivalry and loud notes of patriotism. 1971: Beyond Borders is now playing at theatres in the UAE.

With Mohanlal reprising the role of Major Mahadevan, the canvas of the film is bigger. It goes right back to the fierce 1971 war waged between India and Pakistan, and has Mohanlal playing the unbeatable hero, saluted even by foes.
Also starring Arunoday Singh, Allu Sirish, Sudheer Karamana, Saiju Kurup and Asha Sharath, among others, the film opened to mixed reviews in Kerala. But if you bring down your expectations a few notches, maybe this war film could make the weekend trip to theatres worthwhile.

Noor (Hindi)

The movie, Noor, directed by Sunhil Sippy that features Sonakshi Sinha in the lead titular role.

The movie is an adaptation of Saba Imtiaz's novel 'Karachi, I Love You' and follows a Pakistani journalist-writer Noor's misadventures and love life as she navigates her way through Mumbai.

The group soon discovers that the hospital has been inhabited by grotesque creatures. It was given a limited theatrical release in April 2017

Yg3alo Amer (Arabic)

The hero of the film, Ahmed Rizk, embodies the role of 'Amer'. He has a single son called 'Karim', a psychologically complex person and he has doubt of all those around him, even his wife constantly and he divorced her three times.

Can't Help Falling in Love

Can't Help Falling in Love is a romantic comedy drama film directed by Mae Cruz-Alviar,starring Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla. The movie sees Padilla and Kathryn playing strangers who somehow find themselves married.

Baahubali: The Beginning (Re-run) from April 19

Those who missed it would love to catch it before part 2 "Baahubali" saga released "Baahubali: The Beginning" before "Baahubali: The Conclusion" releases on on April 28.

Produced by Arka entertainment, directed by S.S Rajamouli, the movie stars Prabhas in the title role in addition to Rana Daggubati, Tamannaah Bhatia, Anushka Shetty, Ramya Krishnan and Sathyaraj in pivotal roles.
