Everest
Everest follows in a long line of similar projects that include The Perfect Storm and The Impossible where, if you read the news, chances are you already know what's going to happen. I don't think I'm giving out any spoilers by calling Everest a disaster movie, however enough time has passed since the 1996 event that perhaps those around at the time will have forgotten and some current moviegoers may not have even been born, so I'll keep details down to a minimum.
Starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Jason Clarke and Robin Wright, Everest charts a climb to the top of the eponymous mountain in the early days of private expeditions. Up until 1992, only state certified climbing parties were allowed to head to the summit meaning about 100 people per year went up. Since deregulation that annual number increased ten-fold. In one of the harshest environments on Earth along with more climbers of varying proficiency - something was always bound to go wrong. The film centres on two groups aiming to survive once a storm sweeps in, one led by Gyllenhaal, the other by Clarke.
IMDb gives it 7.8 and Rotten tomatoes gives it 82%
