Gautam Gambhir's long and agonising wait for a return to the Indian team is finally over. The Delhi left-hander will play in the third Test match, which starts on Saturday, against New Zealand in Indore.
Indian captain Virat Kohli, whose uneasy relationship with Gambhir is no secret to Indian fans, admitted in the pre-match Press conference on Friday that the Delhi opener will earn his 57th Test cap for India on Saturday.

"That's a natural change because of injury to Shikhar (Dhawan), natural because he (Gambhir) is the third opener in the team," Kohli said in Indore on Friday.
Gambhir was recalled to the Indian team after Lokesh Rahul got injured in the first Test, but the team management decided to play Dhawan at the top order with the reliable Murali Vijay.
Dhawan also got injured in the second Test which ruled him out of the rest of the series. The selectors then called up the uncapped Karun Nair for the third Test, but Kohli seems to have decided to give the 34-year-old Gambhir a chance to revive his career.

Gambhir has a history of on-field incidents in international cricket. It remains to be seen if he brings the same aggressive attitude to the field against New Zealand.
Meanwhile, Kohli also emphasised the importance of giving players rest so they can last the long home season in which they will also play England, Bangladesh and Australia.
"What happened to Shikhar was not a fitness issue, but a blow on the thumb. We have had injuries, but the good thing is we were able to recognise them early and have given them rest. It's a long season ahead and the good thing is others have stepped in and taken it as an opportunity (to do well)," Kohli said.
"It's very important to manage the work load, especially for the fast bowlers. For ODI matches, they have been given rest. It is a long Test season ahead and it gives opportunity to others to prove themselves," added Kohli.
India have already taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-Test series against New Zealand, reclaiming the number one ranking in Test cricket.
