The Freaks Roll Out
Calling all skateboarders in the UAE — it’s time to get your freak on this
Halloween. The Rage Skate Park, in Dubai Festival City, is opening its doors to a ghoulish night of riding on Saturday,
October 31. The park is one of the finest outdoor
skating areas in the region and regularly attracts boarders from all over the Emirates. Any skater who turns up in fancy dress will receive free entry into the park on the night, so if you’ve got a hideous and terrifying Halloween costume you’re just dying to reveal to the world, this could be the perfect time to do
so. The skating session will be held from 4pm
until 8pm, with riders showing off their best moves and tricks under the park’s floodlights. The park is currently undergoing major re-surfacing work, but organisers are confident it should be ready to skate come the event. Expect skaters of all ages from all over Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and beyond to make it down for this event. It’ll be so radical, dude.

Autopsy
It’s the middle of the night. You’re driving on a lonely road. Suddenly, from out of nowhere, another car hits you. When you wake up, there’s shattered glass all over the pavement, your friends are injured, and the other car is gone. You’re disoriented and hurting — but when you see the ambulance’s flashing red and blue lights, you know help has arrived. Emily Johnson, her boyfriend Bobby, and their friends Clare and Jude, are driving cross-country. An accident leaves them hurt and stranded on a lonely Louisiana road. When the ambulance arrives, it whisks them to Mercy Hospital. With minimal staff and many of its floors empty, the hospital is an eerie place — but that’s only the beginning. The staff are conducting inhuman experiments on helpless patients under the instruction of Dr Benway, a direct descendant of the infamous New Orleans family that committed atrocities in the 19th century. Autopsy is a cheesy horror that’s more sniggers and smirks than blood and gore.

Jamie Oliver — Jamie’s America
Jamie Oliver, love him or hate him, is the man who helped make cooking cool — or at least that’s what his PR hype says. There’s no denying that Oliver shook up the idea of the celebrity chef and injected a little bit of ‘lad culture’ into the kitchen with his cheeky take on TV cooking shows. Dressed casually in a trendy T-shirt, jeans and scruffy trainers, he was the exact opposite of the more stuffy chefs plying their trade on the small screen. Since then, the housewives’ favourite has become a bona fide star and crusader in the war against junk food and childhood obesity. His latest book is a practical journey through the meals and dishes found on tables all over the good old US of A. Don’t expect cheese burgers, beef jerky and pizza pies here. Instead, Oliver turns his attention to creating meals fit for cowboys and city slickers alike, from Alaskan salmon dishes to spicy Texas chilis and even some New Orleans style gumbo soup.

Alison Moyet — The Best Of — 25 Years Revisited
Alison Moyet has of the most recognisable voices from the past 20 years of pop music. The UK-born songstress shot to fame in the 1980s with her powerful performances on tracks like Love Resurrection, All Cried Out, More and Hoodoo. Renowned for her jazzy voice, she was part of the electro pop duet Yazoo with former Depeche Mode member Vince Clarke. A solo career followed which saw Moyet gain even more fame on the other side of the Atlantic. Success in the United States helped to cement her position as one of the great voices of the 1980s and early 90s. Fans will be delighted with this two disc collection of all her hits, while the album is a great introduction to Moyet’s work and talent. In an era when all you need is a size zero figure and a well-funded PR machine to become a pop star, Moyet is a refreshing look back to the days when it was talent, above all else, that took you to the top.
