Local photography gallery, The Empty Quarter, has a new exhibition. Martin Becka has used antique techniques and salted paper prints to shoot Dubai’s construction and buildings, the result being a series of shots in which contemporary objects look like long-lost buildings. The exhibition will also feature a camera manufactured in 1857 and a mock dark room. Until November 17.

24 SAT For some thought-provoking art, head to the XVA gallery to catch Two Takes on Reality — an exhibition by artists Rafael Mahdavi and Mansur Salim, which will be held until November 18. While Mahdavi’s landscape works symbolise his memories, Salim redefines reality through his art. There is no space for illusion here, as the artists aim to alter one’s view of reality.

27 TUE Roman Polanski’s thriller, Rosemary’s Baby, is this week’s pick for movie night at the Shelter Gallery. Arguably Polanski’s best-known film, it features a waif-like Mia Farrow as Rosemary who is targeted by a cult. Shortly after a nightmare in which she is raped by something ‘inhuman’, she discovers she is pregnant. The film starts at 8.30pm and is not one for mums-to-be.
