A total of 1,884 slaughter animals were handled by the abattoirs of Ras Al Khaimah during the Eid Al Adha holidays.
Up to 1,093 sheep and 42 cows were slaughtered at the Central Abattoir in Filya while 425 sheep and one cow sacrificed at the RAK abattoir
The Gheir abattoir slaughtered 197 sheep and three cows and the Shawkah abattoir slaughtered 127 sheep and four camels.
Dr Majid Al Dusiki, head of vet control and services at the public health department, said all services were provided in a smooth and professional manner. "Customers needed to wait for a maximum of 30 minutes. All animals are examined before and after slaughtering to make sure that they are disease free and are fit for human consumption."
Munther bin Shekar Al Zaabi, director-general of the RAK Municipality, said the abattoirs were opened for an additional seven-hour shift, from 1pm to 8pm, to meet the demand.
