Hundreds of Ajman residents have been struggling without running water for over 20 hours straight since late Thursday evening. At 9pm on Friday, many were still waiting for the water supply to be restored.
Khaleej Times received calls from residents living in Rashidiya and Nuaimiya areas, as well as from some areas of Ajman corniche.
Swati, a resident of Nuaimia, said they were not prepared for such a long gap without water and they had to buy gallons of water from the grocery for their needs.
"If we were informed about any kind of repair or maintenance of water lines, we would definitely make arrangements. It's a big struggle now as we are unable to cook or even wash our hands or use the washroom," she said.
Swati said they faced a similar water disruption about two months ago. At that time, although they weren't notified about it, the supply resumed in just a couple of hours.
"That was understandable. But this time, it has been over 16 hours since our water supply went off and we just don't know what to do, as no one seems to know what really happened."
Shaima M, a resident of Rashidiya 2, said a couple of buildings of Ajman Sports Club and some other towers had no water since Thursday night.
"Even the car wash and other shops in our area are complaining of no running water since last night. My husband and I had to go to our cousin's place to take a shower and get ready. There was no information about what happened and when it will be okay," Shaima said.
At 7pm on Friday, Shaima received a call from her building staff, saying a Fewa water tanker had arrived to fill up the tanks, but no one really knew what prompted the disruption.
Weekend woes
Another Rashidiya 1 resident, Sunil G said he noticed the low water pressure in his taps in the morning, but he thought it was due to some maintenance work.
"I did not know the supply would completely get cut, and that too for the whole day. Otherwise I would have made arrangements.
"We have kids in the house and we are now going to a nearby mall as no one can even use the washroom or even cook without water. We will most probably go to our cousin's house in Sharjah for a day until the water supply resumes," he said.
Atul A, a bachelor living within Al Khor Tower area, said he was forced to go to his office on a weekend as there was no water supply in his house. "I went to my office building to use the washroom and freshen up, as I was shocked to see no water in any tap of the house.
"When I asked the watchman of my building, he said they were unsure about what happened and when would the water supply be restored. I couldn't wait one full day as I had weekend plans, so I just drove to my office and got ready.
"I called up to check g if the water supply was restored but the staff told me it wasn't restored yet. I hope this issue gets resolved before the weekend ends and it would be good if the authorities inform us before any such decision."
